PURPOSE:To allow the discriminated analysis of a selenic acid ion (SeO42-) and selenious acid ion (SeO32-) by converting the separated SeO42- to the SeO32- and detecting the atomic absorbance while maintaining the elution intervals. CONSTITUTION:The SeO42- and SeO32- separated by a column 1 for ion chromatography are discharged respectively at specified time intervals. The SeO32- flows straight into a mixing coil 9. The SeO42- is mixed with the concd. hydrochloric acid from the tank 6 in a mixing coil 5 and is heated to convert to the SeO32- which flows into the coil 9. The SeO42- admitted into the coil apart the time intervals reacts with the NaBH4 supplied from a tank 10 to make H2Se which flows into a gas-liquid separator 12. Extraneous components do not generate H2Se at this time. The H2Se separated by the separator 12 is atomized by heating and is then detected at the resonance ray wavelength of 196nm wavelength of at atomic absorption photometer 13. The concns. of the SeO42- and the Seo32- are then separately detected by one time of sample injection. The positive utilization of wavelength selectivity is possible and the disturbance by the extraneous ions is surely eliminated.
