PURPOSE:To suppress corrosion of a metal carrier and deterioration of a catalyst by changing over exhaust gas flow passages according to a temperature of the exhaust gas, and flowing the exhaust gas through a honeycomb heater or a heater catalyst only when the temperature of the exhaust gas is low. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of slits 11 as resistance adjusting mechanisms are formed on a honeycomb structure 10 having a number of through-holes 12, and two electrodes 13 are formed on an outer wall thereof, to prepare a honeycomb heater. A first flow passage 20 on which a heater catalyst 14 holding the honeycomb heater or a catalyst is arranged in front of a main monorice catalyst 15. A bypassing second flow passage 16 is provided parallelly to the first flow passage 20. In the thus-obtained catalyst converter device, exhaust gas is flowed through the first flow passage 20 when its temperature is a specified value or lower to increase the speed of performance of catalyst. When the exhaust gas temperature exceeds the specified value, the gas is flowed through the second flow passage 16 to suppress the deterioration of the catalyst.
