PURPOSE:To reduce running cost and to miniaturize equipment by a method wherein the water subjected to gas-liquid co-current aeration flooding from the lower part of the first packed tower is subjected to water sprinkling countercurrent aeration in the upper part of the second packed tower to be further subjected to gas-liquid countercurrent aeration in the lower part thereof. CONSTITUTION:Raw water 1 contaminated with an organochlorine compound such as trichloroethylene is allowed to flow in the lower part of the first packed tower 2. Next, the air from a blower 4 to a water sprinkling pipe 3 is blown in water to perform gas-liquid co-current aeration such that air is advanced upwardly in the same direction as the raw water 1 while well brought into contact with the raw water in the interstices of a packing material 5. The water after treatment is sprinkled to the packing material 5 from the perforated plate 7 provided to the upper part of the second packed tower 8 through a flooding pipe 6 to perform water sprinkling countercurrent aeration treatment countercurrently brought into contact with the air from below. Continuously, gas-liquid countercurrent aeration treatment blowing air from the lower part of the second packed tower 8 so that water and air also become a countercurrent state at a part where the packing material 5 is sunk in water is performed.
