PURPOSE:To make it possible to efficiently perform a test, by a method wherein a closing device is closed, in such a state that the movable electrodes of a gas insulated breaker to be tested are opened halfway and fixed while a first capacitor is charged by a DC voltage generating apparatus and the breaker is closed, to generate voltage in the secondary side winding of a power source transformer and, thereafter, the breaker is opened. CONSTITUTION:The movable electrodes 11b of a gas insulated breaker 11 to be tested are driven and fixed on the way while set so as to adjust discharge start voltage between the electrode to 2pu. A load side capacitor 18 is charged with voltage of 1pu and, subsequently, a closing device 26 is closed in the vicinity of the voltage zero point of the output voltage from a short circuited dynamo 27. Voltage near to commercial frequency voltage rises in the side of the secondary side winding 23a of the power source transformer 23. In this case, the closing device 26 is closed so that the polarity of voltage rising in the secondary side of the power source transformer 23 becomes opposite to that of the charged voltage of the load side capacitor 18. By this method, the difference of the charged voltage of the load side capacitor 18 and the secondary side voltage of the power source transformer 23 is applied between the electrodes of the gas insulated breaker to be tested and discharge is performed between the electrodes when the voltage between the poles of the gas insulated breaker to be tested reaches 2pu.
