PREPARATION OF REDDISH AMBER GLASS PRODUCT OF SODA LIME SILICA TYPE

PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively the titled clear reddish amber glass product, by blending silica sand with sode ash, limestone, aluminum hudroxide, a copper compound and carbon in a sepcific ratio, melting the blend, preparing a glass molded article, heat-treating it. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt silica sand is blended with 25-45pts.wt. soda ash, 12- 35pts.wt limestone, 0.6-6pts.wt. aluminum hydroxide, 0.007-0.05pts.wt. (calculated as CuO) copper compound, and 0.01-0.1pt.wt. carbon (C) in a molar ratio of Cu/C1/2. If necessary, the blend is further mixed with 0.01-0.5pt.wt. of tin oxide as a color stabilizer and lead oxide or zinc oxide as an auxiliary based on 100pts.wt. silica sand. The prepared batch is melted, molded into a desired shape to prepare a glass molded article. The prepared glass molded article is heat-treated, to give the desired reddish glass product of soda lime silica type.
