Cylindrical portions of dough, spaced apart and extending in the travel direction, are pressed against each other on a conveyor delivering to a baking tray by components on opposite sides of the conveyor and moving towards each other. As this movement of the components takes place, air is blown from them towards the conveyor and at right angles to its travel direction, against the portions of dough nearest to the components, exerting a force on the conveyor away from it and from the components. The air can be discharged from the outside of one component and via the gap between it and the conveyor.
