Medium for detection of coagulase-positive staphylococci, containing both a nutrient and a selective medium, consisting of two dry components, the first component being a nutrient agar comprising kefir peptone, meat extract, yeast extract, lithium chloride and powdered agar-agar, whereas the second component is a selective medium, comprising glycol, sodium tellurite, sulphametazine, sodium pyruvate and buffered saline which contains sodium chloride, potassium hydrogen phosphate, and di-potassium phosphate, characterized in that the second component contains Tween 80 (polyoxyethyleno-sorbo-oleinate) at concentration of 1.150 to 1.450 percent by weight of the total dry weight of medium, and the full dry medium has additional two dry components that provide differentiating medium, the third component having the following composition as percent of weight of the total medium: bovine fibrinogen 1.950 - 2.350, rabbit plasma 1.000 - 1.500, soy trypsin inhibitor 0.005 - 0.010, while the fourth component is powdered agar-agar that is dosed at 5.50 - 7.80 percent by weight of the total dry weight of medium.2. A method of the identification of pathogenic staphylococci, characterized in that the sample is inoculated on the pre-dried surface of nutrient-selective agar plates prepared from the first and second components, and the medium prepared from third and fourth component is layered on top of inoculated plates, and after solidification the incubation is carried out by the standard procedures but no longer than for 24 hours, and after that typical colonies of coagulase-positive staphylococci are counted with no need for further confirmation with biochemical tests.
