The process comprises application of Ni-Cu alloy contg. 30-75% of Cu. Thus ferritic stainless steel, after alkaline degreasing, and washing before and after acid treatment, receives a 3-7 microns nickel coating prior to plating proper. The plating bath contains NiCl2.6H2O 50-100, CuCl2.2H2O 10-15, Na citrate 80-100, K chloride 3-8, Na saccharin 0.01-1 g/litre. The pH is 0.5-4, with 1-3 A/dm3 at 40-60 degrees C. Washing with hot water is followed by passivation washing and drying to give a 10-20 microns 75% Cu coating.
