In the case of the process according to the invention for cutting an adhesive plastic material, particularly an adhesive strip, the cutting is performed contactlessly by means of a cutting medium in the form of a jet or beam, expediently by means of a fluid jet, in particular by means of a concentrated, thin fluid jet under high pressure and preferably by means of an air jet of about 0.15 mm diameter and a pressure of about 8 to 10 MPa (80 to 100 bar). However, the cutting may also be performed by means of a laser beam. …??A preferred application of the process according to the invention is for the automatic depositing of an adhesive shaped strip along the edge of a glass sheet, in particular of a vehicle window, adhesive being extruded through an extruding profile die, led along the edge of the vehicle window by means of a robot, and pressed on to the surface of the glass. The following specific procedure is followed:… - the initial, deformed part of the shaped strip, in the region of the starting point of the extruding profile die, is automatically separated from the undeformed part of the shaped strip by means of a cut made transversely to the shape;… - the separated initial deformed part is automatically removed from the surface of the glass;… - in the region of the end point of the profile die, the latter is lifted off the surface of the glass;… - the shaped strip is automatically cut off by means of a second cut, made parallel to the first, to such a length that the two ends of the shaped strip butt congruently against each other… - the end region of the shaped strip is automatically pressed against the surface of the glass and the two ends of the shaped strip are automatically pressed against each other. …??The process permits a purely automatic depositing of the adhesive shaped strip which runs fully automatically and does not require any manual intervention.
