The telecommunication line comprises at least one terminal station (1, 2) having an optical-signal transmitter (T1, T2) and an optical-signal receiver (R1, R2), which are operationally connected by an automatic protection device (19) suitable for shutting down said transmitter (T1, T2) in the absence of a received optical signal, at least one opticalfibre line (3, 4) for the transmission of the optical signals transmitted by said transmitter and received by said receiver, and at least one optical amplifier (5) included in said line (3, 4). With said optical amplifier (5) there are associated means (12) for the detection of the presence of light energy at input and means (14) for causing the shut down of the amplifier, which in the absence of light energy at input are caused by said detection means (12) to interrupt substantially any emission of light energy on the part of said optical amplifier.
