The transfer device comprises a frame (1), a transfer table (2) which can be retracted and extended to various lengths, a plurality of deflecting rollers (3) and an endless transfer belt (4). The transfer belt (4) is guided over the upper side of the transfer table (2) and a front deflecting roller (5) on the transfer table (2) and also over the deflecting rollers (2). The deflecting rollers (3) form at least one compensating loop (6) whose compensating travel corresponds to the retracting and extending movement of the transfer table (2). The transfer table (2) consists of a plurality of strip-shaped table-top elements (7) which are connected at the edges (8) in the manner of a flat-link chain and are moved together in zigzag manner in the frame (1) in the retracted state.
