In order to provide a mat which can be fitted into the foot well in a private car, preventing the passage of moisture and dirt into said space in the car and at the same time having an aesthetic appearance, with the additional result that it also achieves an insulating effect against noise, it is proposed to mould part 3 from carpet-type material in a rigid plastic part 2 shaped in the manner of a tray, on the side of the plastic part on which the feet rest and substantially over its entire area. In particular, the lateral edges 4 of the part 3 of material are covered by the plastic material of the part 2 made from plastic and, preferably, a layer 5 of a polyurethane foam material is moulded over the lower side of the plastic part 2.
