The invention relates to a method of transferring champagne bottle wire straps automatically to a stacker in an orderly arrangement following their disorderly discharge from a machining station and to a method of transferring said wire straps automatically from an orderly arrangement on a stacker to a subsequent machining station, as well as to a device for carrying out the methods. In order to ensure that, during the transferring operations, the champagne bottle wire straps maintain their defined, orderly arrangement with respect to one another and that no manual operations are needed, it is proposed to follow the disorderly discharge of the wire straps from the machining station by sending them out of the machine along a downwardly directed slope, transferring them on the slope into an orderly arrangement in the form of a row, transferring the row to the horizontal and conveying them by means of a gripping mechanism, arranged movably above the row, to the stacker. On the other hand, it is proposed for transferring the champagne bottle wire straps from the stacker, to move them by means of the gripping mechanism from the container to the horizontal, to deposit them on the latter, transfer them onto a downwardly directed slope and to the subsequent machining station.
