URINE SPECIMEN COLLECTORS AND METHOD OF DETECTING SPURIOUS URINE SPECIMENS

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREUrine specimen containers combined with a temperaturesensitive member which is capable of signalling a spuriousurine specimen when placed in a sufficiently close heatexchange relationship with a urine specimen. The temperaturesensitive member contains portions which change color irre-versibly at preselected temperatures when placed in sufficientlyclose heat exchange relationship with a urine specimen. Thetemperatures at which the irreversible color changes are madeare selected slightly below normal body temperature and slightlyin excess of normal body temperature such as from about 90°F.to about 100°F. The urine specimen collector itself includesa bowl-shaped member with an integral handle. The bowl-shapedmember is contoured to fit in close proximity to the body ofthe user. A cover member is pivotally attached to the handleand functions as a splash guard for the user. The cover memberalso has a raised boss terminating in an open top to permiturination through the cover member. The opening of the raisedboss in the cover member is substantially in line with athreaded connection for a collection container which isscrewed onto the bottom of the bowl-shaped member. The covermember has a portion thereof spaced from a frontal portion ofthe bowl-shaped member to provide an overflow from the bowl-shaped member.
