ABSTRACTApparatus is disclosed which serves tomove a carriage in one direction over a predetermineddistance at a substantially uniform velocity and forreturning the carriage at a varying velocity so thata film web which is delivered at a constant velocityis intermittently advanced relative to a weldingdevice, which fixed to a frame. The apparatus com-prises a lever, which is adapted to be pivotally oscil-lated by a drive and which by means of a first guideprovided on said lever and extending along said leverand a slider or roller cooperating with said guideimparts a motion to said carriage, which is movable intracks in a plane which is parallel to the plane inwhich the lever is pivotally movable. The slider orthe bearing for the roller is mounted on a holder,which is guided for a displacement along a line, whichconstitutes the base of an isosceles triangle, thesides of which are defined by the lever at the endpositions of its pivotal movement. In order to providesuch an apparatus which is more compact and space-saving, the means for driving the lever comprisea crank, which revolves in a plane that is parallel tothe plane in which the lever is pivotally movable,and said crank is carried by a driven crankshaftand carries a crankpin, which carries a slider or aroller, which is movable in a second guide providedon the , which second guide is disposed onthat side of the lever which is opposite to the firstguide .
