CYLINDRICAL ELECTROMAGNETS, EACH HAVING A CENTEREDPASSAGEWAY, FOR RELATIVE TRAVEL ALONG THE SAME WAVEGUIDE HOUSING OF A LINEAR POSITION-DISPLACEMENTTRANSDUCER, AND UTILIZED, WHEN INDIVIDUALLY ENERGIZED,TO GENERATE FLUX, WHICH IN TURN INDICATES THE POSITIONOF THIS ONE OF SEVERAL RESPECTIVELY ATTACHED MOVABLECOMPONENTS OF A MACHINEABSTRACTWhen observing or setting the changeable positions ofrespective movable components of a machine, such as movable sawsof a multiple cut sawing machine, each linear position-displacement transducer used has the wave guide housing thereof,made of sufficient length to receive, instead of one permanentmagnet, several overall cylindrical electromagnets serving asflux generators. Each one has a centered hole or passageway, topermit the movement thereof along the wave guide. Each overallcylindrical electromagnet has four electromagnets equallyradially spaced in a radial plane with their commonly positionednorth poles, forming an overall central north pole, surroundingthe center hole, which is formed by a non ferrous tube, and withtheir radially spaced south poles being adjacent to an encirclingsoft iron band. This band serves as a 360 degree target for fluxradiating from the overall central north pole, therebystrengthening and enhancing the radiation signal patternbombarding the wave guide housing, when the overall cylindricalelectromagnet is being energized to serve in determining thelocation of the machinery component to which it is attached.Also this encircling soft iron band serves as a heat sink totransfer and to dissipate the heat buildup occurring within theoverall cylindrical electromagnet. To maintain these componentsin place with their electrical connections and circuits, thespaces between them are filled with epoxy, and plastic laminatetop and bottom covers are used, and top and bottom O ring sealsare used to seal out dust and moisture, and non-ferrous supportposts are used together with fasteners to complete the assemblyof each overall cylindrical electromagnet.
