CANOPY STRUCTURE WITH FOLDING CENTRAL SUPPORT

ABSTRACTA canopy structure is provided and includes aframework unit and a flexible covering. The frameworkunit is formed by a plurality of upright corner membersand a plurality of roof support members that arepivotally connected at the top ends of the cornermembers and, in an erected position, extend upwardly andinwardly to a central apex where they are pivotallyconnected to one another. The roof support members areformed of extendable sections which preferably telescopewith respect to one another so that the framework unitmay move into a collapsed state with the corner supportand roof support members oriented in closely spaced,parallel relation. Latches are provided to prevent theframework unit from collapsing from the erectedposition, Constraining and support structure,preferably in the form of scissor assemblies, inter-connect adjacent corner support members to prevent themfrom moving apart past the erected state. The scissorassemblies have one portion pivotally connected to thetops of its associated corner supports and anotherportion pivotally connected to slide brackets on itsassociated corner support member. A cantilever memberinterconnects each roof support member and the slidebracket on its associated corner support member. Thecentral apex may include a spring biased central post tosupport the peak of the covering placed on the frameworkunit. Several framework units may be formed togetherinto a larger canopy structure.
