ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA permanent magnet, alternating currentenergized motor having a variable hysteresis outputcoupling is provided. An annular permanent magnet rotoris caused to rotate within a stator structure. Thispermanent magnet rotor is capable of being shiftedlaterally to engage or disengage a hysteresis drag cupoutput device. With this arrangement either an off-onoutput torque can be provided, or the output torque canbe modulated.
