Timothy MillerErie, PennsylvaniaAbstract of the DisclosureA fluid filled vibration isolator having a pair ofchambers separated by a partition in which is formed aninertia track passageway cooperable with a decoupler toprovide certain dynamic operating characteristics is providedwith a means for varying the compliance of one of thechambers to enable the dynamic operating characteristics tobe precisely adjusted in the course of operation. In theembodiment disclosed, an air chamber is superimposed above afluid chamber and is separated therefrom by a diaphragmmovable into the chamber in response to a differentialcontrol pressure, such as a vacuum, applied therein. Ashutter panel is mounted to the underside of the diaphragmand moved therewith into and out of engagement with a rigidstop surrounding the diaphragm. When disengaged from thestop, the air chamber contributes to the overall complianceof the fluid chamber. When engaged with the stop, theshutter panel isolates the air chamber from fluid pressurevariations, thereby changing the overall compliance of thefluid chamber.
