UNITARY SPECIMEN COLLECTION TUBEAND MICROSCOPE SLIDE DEVICEAbstractThe device has a flat, elongated, self-supporting,preferably transparent backing strip and a transparentfront strip bearing side and bottom flanges bonded to thebacking strip. Both strips are preferably plastic and thefront strip is vacuum molded to a configuration whichdefines with the backing strip an upper open-topped hollowspecimen collection tube for urine samples and the likeand a lower microscope slide having an internal chamber.An intermediate, narrow bore, hollow conduit, preferablyabout 0.06 inch diameter, interconnects the slide chamberwith the lower interior portion of the collection tube, sothat sediment and the like can gravitate from thecollection tube down through the conduit to the slidechamber. The device can be centrifuged as an integralcollector/slide unit and later the slide can be readilybroken away from the collection tube at the conduit formicroscopic analysis of the sediment therein. Transversescore lines and/or notches permit the length of thecollection tube to be adjusted to fit a centrifuge andfacilitate breaking the slide away from the collectiontube. The device is simple, inexpensive and effective.
