RCA 85,002AbstractThe operation of a tuner of a television receiverfor tuning nonstandard, as well as standard, frequency RFtelevision signals, requiring a relatively long time forcompletion, is partitioned into a number of shorterduration sections or "slices" which are individuallytime-multiplexed with other control operations under thecontrol of a microprocessor. This allows themicroprocessor to more frequently respond to new userinitiated commands than otherwise possible. An interruptsubroutine of the stored program under which themicroprocessor operates establishes time delays, requiredfor the tuning system to settle before new operations areperformed, outside the main control loop including the usercommand processing and tuner control subroutines so as notto slow the response of the microprocessor to usercommands.
