TAPE TRANSPORT WITH MULTI-GAP READ/WRITE HEAD FOR UTILIZATION WITH LEADER BLOCK TAPE CARTRIDGE An eight inch form factor tape transport is mechanically compatible with the IBM 3480 leader block tape cartridge and is capable of reading and writing data in the IBM 3480 eighteen track recording format. The tape path eliminated the requirement for an air bearing. A support mechanism permits independent head height adjustment and head azimuth adjustment. The drive electronics are miniaturized on LSI circuits carried on four PC boards contained within the form factor.
