Proposed is a closure for detachably connecting two strap ends (49, 71) overlapping from opposite directions along part of their length in order to secure an article. Both strap ends have a multiplicity of retaining elements (51, 73) located at substantially equal intervals along the strap and at right angles to it. These retaining elements project out from the two facing surfaces of the strap ends, are staggered in the longitudinal direction and have, on their heads, protuberances in the strap-tension and strap counter-tension direction and at right angles to these directions. These protuberances (53, 55; 75, 77) are designed in such a way that the retaining elements on the two strap ends engage with each other along the overlap section with the protuberances fitting behind each other, the protuberances protuding in the counter-tension direction and at right angles to this direction, respectively, of two adjacent retaining elements, one on each strap end, fitting flat behind each other, the contact surfaces thus formed being inclined at an angle to the tension direction or to the direction at right angles to the tension direction, respectively.
