Gas- and dusthood for an electric arc furnace and process for its utilisation

The gas- and dusthood for an electric arc furnace has a main discharge line (7) provided in the arched roof (1) of the furnace and a collecting box which surrounds the space in the region of the electrodes and is formed fron an additional arched roof. In a second embodiment, the space around the electrodes is surrounded by individual boxes. In the first embodiment, the side wall of the collecting box (2) forms a distributing/collecting line (3) with openings and/or gaps (4) which face the electrodes and which are connected to a pressure line (5). In the second embodiment, the side wall of each individual box (19) forms a distributing/collecting line (16) with openings and/or gaps (17) which face the electrodes and which are connected to a pressure line (5). In operation, the collecting box (2) or the individual collecting boxes (19) are supplied with air and/or inert gas in such a quantity that the pressure in the box or boxes lies at least 5 mm H2O above the pressure of the furnace interior.
