An electronic transformer for low voltage lamps with a supply circuit provided with a mains transformer and a switching circuit for powering one or more low voltage lamps by means of two supply lines from the public electricity grid, a measuring circuit for measuring the real lamp voltage by means of the two supply lines and a measuring line connected to one of said supply lines at the lamp side, a comparator for comparing the real lamp voltage measured with a desired lamp voltage, and a control circuit for controlling the switching circuit in dependence on the result of comparison so as to have the supply circuit maintain the real lamp voltage at the desired lamp voltage.
