The navigable-waterway construction contains a passage opening 1 and a gate for the passage opening 1. This gate consists of a water-retention body 4 with ballast cells 5 and an intermediate supporting element 6 rigidly connected to it at one end. The other end of the intermediate supporting element 6 is connected to the weir side 7 by means of a ball-and-socket joint 9. A part 4a of the water-retention body 4, which lies under the maximum water level 12 on the retention side 11 when the ballast cells 5 are flooded, has the shape of a shell part of a sphere, the centre of which coincides with the centre of the joint 9.
