The invention solves the problem of removing the marine growth from the hull of the seagoing vessel during her normal operation while eliminating the need to dock the vessel or even to interrupt the transport activities which are associated with the use of the vessel. The method of removing the marine growth according to the invention consists in the fact that a strip cleaning device (1), arranged with its length perpendicular to the displacement direction, is cyclically displaced along the outer surfaces (B and C) of the sides and bottom of the vessel and at the same time presses towards these surfaces while the vessel is at rest or even while it is in service. The cleaning device according to the invention is characterised in that a flow profile (2) runs at the start of the cylindrical hull part (A) and across the entire width of the underwater part of the sides (B) and bottom (C) and is fastened on one side to this hull, and the side segments (3) and the bottom segment (4) of the strip cleaning device are located inside the said flow profile.
