An apparatus for determining the time required for sound energy to cross a body fluid in a pipe using a pipe amended wherein flat elements clog orifices formed therein and two transducers are fixed to respective plate elements. The material which surrounds each aperture is curved and forms a curve from the center of the pipe to the periphery of the orifice and comes into contact with the respective flat element around the entire periphery of the orifice.
