Labels are described which consist of paper, aluminium, plastics film or composites thereof. Labels of this kind serve for identifying commercial articles from the foodstuffs industry and semi-luxury goods industry, preferably for application to glass and/or plastics bottles or bottle crates of the beverages industry. They are provided with an activateable first layer, applied to the label reverse side and permitting mechanical release, and with a second coating, applied to the surface of the first, having adhesion-promoting properties with respect to the article to be identified by the label. The material of the first layer is at least partly incorporated into the label material and forms a condensation-proof release layer. The second coating imparts adhesive properties and is applied in the form of a gluing pattern.
