The invention relates to welding and may find use in arc welding fusing electrode in shielding gas mixtures and based on them, especially in welding machines and robots to protect the combustion zone arc argon, carbon dioxide and mixtures, thereof. The purpose of the invention - improved accuracy control state gas shielding the welding zone in the range of modes providing drip transfer electrode metal. This is achieved in that the process according to the control state of shielding gas during arc welding, fusing electrode, wherein a gas shield state is judged by the deviation of the current value of the monitored parameter from the set, as the controlled parameter used during formation of the electrode drops. Droplet formation time determined by the time during which the magnitude of the arc voltage exceeds the reference value, or the time during which the welding current value is below the reference value magnitude. This allows to accurately determine the state of the shielding gas before deterioration as a protective weld zone will reduce the performance of welded joints. 2 h. n. f- ly, 3 ill., 1 tab. (L
