Arabic character display system for digital pager - uses single matrix display element or two adjacent display elements for each arabic character

The display system for a digital pager uses 5x7 point matrix display elements, with each of the arabic characters represented by a single matrix display element, or two adjacent matrix display elements, dependent on the character type and its position within the word. The point matrix display elements directly abut one another, without intermediate spacings. The arabic characters to be represented by a single display element are pref. coded at the transmission side as a single n-bit binary word, those to be represented by a pair of display elements coded at the transmission side as two n-bit binary coded words.
