The two blades (42,43) of the power driven saw are mounted side by side and are driven with a linear oscillating motion in opposite directions to each other. The blades slide between two parallel guide plates (53,54) which have their upper edges (53',54'). They are joined together, with a space (60) between the upper edges of the blades and the lower edge of the joint. The torsional forces, imposed on the blades by the resistance of the workpiece, are resisted by shoulders (51,52) formed on the lower edges of the guide plates.
