In the case of the subsequent assembly of individual cable protection components (12) and a fault-current component (residual current device) (10) to form a common service apparatus (30, 42) which is shaped as a block, the cable protection components (12) are connected to the associated switch poles (20, 22, 24) of the fault-current component (10) using open wiring, which is susceptible to interference from external influences. To this end, covers which are fitted for protection adversely affect access to the latching slides and thus adversely affect their operation. A protective cap (34) according to the invention is provided with retaining arms (36) which have at their one end latching tabs which engage in unlocking openings (10) of the latching slides (16) and are connected at their other end to spring supports (37) which are connected to the protective cap (34). A crossmember (38) which is rigidly connected to the retaining arms (36) makes it possible to operate the latching slides (16) simultaneously via the retaining arms (36), which are used as an extension.
