Protective sleeve (10) for the cannula (18) of injection syringes, blood-withdrawing instruments or suchlike devices which each have a barrel (17) for the reception of a liquid, on one end of which there can be fixed the cannula (18), especially inside a cylindrical cannula attachment (19) formed at this end, the protective sleeve (10) being attachable so as to be axially sliding on the barrel (17) of the syringe or the like, and after injection or withdrawal of blood being displaceable into a position in which it completely covers the cannula (18). Inside the protective sleeve (10) and inside the sleeve body (11) allocated thereto, a locking element (12) is positioned on the end opposite the attachment end. After attachment of the protective sleeve (10) on the barrel (17) of the syringe or the like, this locking element can be coupled to the cannula end of the barrel, especially to a cannula attachment (19) formed there, such that it permits displacement of the protective sleeve (10) into the cannula-covering position (Fig. 4), whereas it blocks displacement in the opposite direction.
