A pipe joint for thermoplastic pipes with a socket-and-spigot type of connection is based on a forked elastomer seal in a trapezoidal recess in the socket. The angle described by the side of the trapezium away from the open end of the socket with the radius of the joint is less than the self-locking (stick-on) angle between elastomer and thermoplastic, but the corresp. angle of an internal triangular compression rib is greater than this angle.
