Lightweight non-burning flooring panels - made by hardening mixt. of phenolic resin, expanded mica, blowing agent and reinforcement in closed mould

Double floor panel or similar building element consisting of a mixt. of a hardenable synthetic resin (phenolic resin) with thermally pretreated expanded mica with the addn. of blowing agents and accelerators, hardened together with a reinforcement in a pressure resistant mould under a predetermined internal pressure. Then reinforcement is e.g. of chopped glass fibre incorporated into the mixt. and/or rod-like inserts, a fabric or the like. Pref. the top and bottom surfaces of the panels have a consolidated structure. USE/ADVANTAGE - The prods. are lightweight, load-bearing, non-burning flooring, ceiling and wall panels which can be used as flooring panels in situations where known non-burning metal faced sandwich panels are unsuitable e.g. in living quarters, laboratories, canteens etc. The lightweight of the panels facilitates handling, transport and installation and is esp. advantageous for installation on board ships.
