Seal for bottom edge of swing door - has two rails, one of PVC moving vertically and another horizontally, so as to move down as door closes and seal irregular gap to floor
A strip seals the base of a swing door with at least one door panel which swings about a vertical axis and one side of the frame. The door has the strip on its bottom edge so as to seal the space to the floor along the whole door width, the door panel sinking to floor level or to a frame when the door closes. Two rails in parallelplanes move at right angles toe ach other. One which engages the floor is a sealing rail moving vertically to the floor. It has at least one opening to take a pin. The other is a lifting rail and engages the side frame whose panel pivots moves parallel to the floor and has at least one further opening to take a pin. One of the two openings in a slot running at an angle between horizontal and vertical. A pin engages both openings. The lifting rail is moved under spring pressure on the frame with the door pivot, when the door is opened. When the door is closed, the rail is moved against the spring and the frame. The pin holds the sealing rail on to the floor when the door is open, the lifting rail is moved by the spring in the opposite direction, and the pin holds the sealing rail off the floor. The sealing rail is preferably made of rigid PVC with a soft section. ADVANTAGE - The sealing strip only drops down against the floor when the door is closed. Its design seals even irregular floor surfaces with relatively wide variations in the gap between the base of the door and the floor along the whole width of the door.
