A workpiece transport arrangement contains a conveyor system which moves carriages past operating positions, a single drive with a controller and a mechanism on each carriage for blocking the drive when the carriage is outside the transport path. The blocking mechanism is controlled by a sensor (10) which detects the presence of transport path wall surfaces (28,42).
