A stuffing box seal assembly is located in a housing (3) around a shaft (2) and comprises active (4) and passive sealing rings (7). The active ring assembly (4) consists of a base ring (5) and/or a cover ring (6) with a sealing ring (4a). Axial force is exerted on the active ring assembly (4) by a flanged ring, through the passive sealing rings (7) which have elastic springing characteristics. The passive sealing rings (7) are mfd. in a graphite material and alternate rings have play against the shaft (2) or housing (3). The active sealing ring (4a) is mfd. in pressed graphite or PTFE. USE/ADVANTAGE - The seal is used around shafts or spindles used particularly in armatures, eliminates metal springs, allows precise ajustment of sealing effect and has long life.
