Catalysts contg. Al and alkaline earth ions are prepd. by treating Al with aq. solns. contg. alkaline earth cations and inorganic anions, and treating the reaction prod. with a fatty acid. USE/ADVANTAGE - The catalysts are used in alkoxylation of organic cpds. contg. active H, esp. prepn. of nonionic surfactants by reacting the organic cpds. with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide under heterogeneous catalysis (claimed). The catalysts pref. contain 0.1-30 wt.% of alkaline earth ions and 1-35% of C. The catalysts are easy to prepare, have high activity, and can easily be sepd. from the alkoxylation prods.
