The vehicle wheel is of welded construction. It has a profiled drop centre rim (1) welded to the hub (5) at the wheel flange (4). Several cooling holes (8) are located around the wheel hub circumference between the hub and wheel flange. In the region of the joint (2) on the wheel outer edge, the free end (3) of the drop rim locates against a section (7) of the wheel flange hub. The connecting weld joints (6,9) are in a low stress region. USE/ADVANTAGE - Lower weight with a higher fatigue life, low cost manufacture.
