Electromagnetically actuated valve - has magnetostrictive actuator rod under tension from spring

The electromagnetically actuated valve has, in its housing bore, an actuator which passes through the core of one or more electric coils. The actuator (1) is a rod of magnetostrictive material, e.g. Tb0.3Dy0.7Fe1.93, (Terfenol D). The actuator (1) is pref. pressed against the rear wall (5) of the housing bore by a compression spring (4) mounted on the front wall (6) of the housing bore. A valve closing member (7) may be fixed to the actuator end facing the valve chamber (10) for closing a first connection channel (A) axially connected to the valve chamber. USE/ADVANTAGE - As two-way valve or three-way valve in pneumatic and hydraulic systems (e.g. in brake units). Simple construction, small (radial dimension) has rapid response and linear characteristic. Suitable for use as a proportional valve.
