A heat-resistant adhesive for banding pressed, microporous heat insulation parts to form composites or for bonding introduced parts such as electric conductors or heating coils is mainly of a sludge consisting of quartz such as silica sol. and clay with added foamer. The compsn. opt. has addns. of e.g. glycol, cellulose and wetting agents to allow application by spreading, dipping or spraying. Pref. compsns. comprise 10-100(pref. 40-60)wt.% silic sol (or 20-45 wt.% Et silicate), 0-80(esp. 20-50)wt.% alumina, 0-90 (esp. 10-35)wt.% ceramic fibres, 0-10 (esp. 0.5-3)wt.% glycol, 0-10(esp. 0.5-3)wt.% cellulose, 0-10 (esp. 0.1-1)wt.% wetting agent and 0-10 (esp. 0.1-1) wt.% foamer. USE/ADVANTAGE - The adhesive is wear-resistant and is claimed for use in bonding pressed heat insulation parts consisting mainly of finely-divided metal oxides, with particular application being in goods such as hot plates, hair dryers, ovens, immersion heaters, electrons, radiators, elec. resistors or arc lamps.
