To fill a mould or core box, for a casting machine, the sand is contained in a sand firing container (1) which is moved between a sand holding station (I) and a sand firing station (II). At the sand holding station, the container (1) is filled with sufficient sand for a number of shots. At the sand firing station (II), the container (1) is subjected to pressure through a firing valve (9), using compressed air. The firing valve (9) is controlled by a computer-supported regulator (11) according to the parameters of pressure, sand volume and shot time. The firing valve (9) can be connected to the sand container (1) through a manometer (18) which sends the firing characteristics as an actual manometer value through a transmitter (13) to the computer (14), to be compared with a programmed nominal value and corrected if required. ADVANTAGE - The operation is simplified for operation by untrained or partially trained personnel.
