Producing silicon nitride powder contg. sintering agent additive consists of spraying a liq. phase of silica halide and halides of alcoholates of Ti, Zn, B, Al and/or Y into an ammonia atmos. in a reaction zone. The liq. phase contains solvent having a boiling point of max 200 deg.C. It is pref. an aliphatic or aromatic nitrite contg. 20-50 vol.% aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbon. ADVANTAGE - The sintering agent additive is homogeneously dispersed in the powder improving sintered properties of the final silicon nitride prod.
