Computer aided testing of studio-standard video cassette recorders - uses microcomputer to perform routine video and audio recording and playback tests and collection of results without manual intervention

A video recorder (10) with on-line control facilities is tested by a microcomputer (20) using an audio signal generator (40), audio signal analyser (50), video signal generator (60), video signal analyser (70) and switching controller (80), through an interface unit (30). A test video cassette and test programme are selected according to the recorder type. Composite colour or RGB video signals, and separate audio signals, may be optionally tested. test results can be output on the screen (90) and/or printer (100), and stored in the microcomputer. USE/ADVANTAGE - Regular maintenance/calibration tests on 'U-Matic' (RTM) and 'Betacam' (RTM) video recorders. Reduces testing times, saving labour costs.
