A subcalibre heavy projectile (10), with a large length/dia. ratio, has a relatively lightweight front core (11) which is in the form of a conical tip (12) and which is integral with a cylindrical rear main core (21), a frangible region (13) being located between the cores. The novelty is that the frangible region (13) is formed by the front end (22) of the main core (21) having a forwardly tapering frustoconical shape with an angle of slope at 15-45 deg. w.r.t. the cylindrical surface (23) of the main core. ADVANTAGE - The projectile has a simple design with only one frangible region providing improved penetration not only of homogeneous targets but also of acutely inclined multiplate targets.
