The machine tool has a bedplate (10) which is mounted on a concrete foundation (11). The bedplate (10) has longitudinal grooves (33) in its side face to guide a slide (13) which moves horizontally in the Z direction. This slide (13) has a vertical guide surface (19) for a vertical slide (15) which carries the first tool unit (16) which is aligned with the centre-line (40) of the workpiece (2). The bedplate (10) has grooves in its upper surface for the second horizontal slide (4) which has a vertical guide surface (9) for the second tool unit (6). The vertical guide surfaces (9) and (19) are offset from each other in the (Y) direction to eliminate the risk of collision between the tools of the two tool units (6) and (16). USE - Machine tools.
