Aq. solns. of hydroxy(1-3C)alkyl starch (I) are used in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. (I) is hydroxyethyl starch (HES), with a mol.wt. of 100000-300000 and a D.S. of 0.4-0.6. The soln. contains 3-8 (esp 6) wt.% (I), 0.3-0.9 wt.% NaCl and 3-9 wt.% of Ginkgo biloba extract solids (II). The soln. is administered by injection or infusion. The unit dose is 400-600ml. USE - The therapy may be used for treating inner-ear damage, hypoxaemia, anoxaemia, anaerobe infections, peripheral circulatory disorders, osteomyelitis and tumours.
