Appts. employs condensation process within a housing having an integral vessel for collecting the condensate. A pot-shaped vessel for catching condensate is located in the centre of a housing with a gap between itself and the housing wall forming an annular space. A transluscent plate is mounted at a distance from the upper edge of the condensate vessel and together with a wall extending down to the base of the condensate vessel to form the open housing. One or more condensation plates are located above the vessel and have a funnel shape tapering downwards to an orifice. Alternatively a cooler is mounted externally on the base of the condensate vessel and has a lower channel extending back into it. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is used in partic. for prodn. of fresh water from sea water, has a simple construction and is small enough to be carried on rescue boats.
